The third technology transfer forum“Structural engineering for cost saving", co-organized by CityU and the Hong Kong Productivity Council on 21 May, disseminated the University’s mature technologies in building and construction.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an emerging technology expected to bring revolutionary development in the supply chain sector. A forum on “Advances in RFID Technology" at CityU on 30 March attracted over 100 academics, industrialists and business professionals craving new knowledge in the field.
On 5 February, the University announced the winners of the Fourth Applied Research Excellence Awards Competition, organized every two years by the Technology Transfer Office, to foster applied research and to recognize staff that excel in this area. Four awards were granted to six CityU researchers in recognition of their significant contributions to the social, industrial, and economic development of Hong Kong.
Officially opening this month, the Applied Research Gallery and the Patent Database offers the business community one-stop access to CityU's latest technologies and know-how. Advances in Wireless Communication, a forum held on 21 August, was the first in a series of six technology forums organized by CityU's Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to exhibit the University's strengths in applied research. There was an overwhelming response with 170 participants, ranging from industry pros to students, keen to learn the latest technological know-how and explore opportunities for collaboration.
In the first of a series of six technology transfer forums, on 21 August, CityU will showcase its applied research strengths for the benefit of local industry. Heralding such a move is a group of high-profile scientists, who will discuss how their innovations meet the challenges in developing low-cost, high performance wireless communications systems.
In addition to basic research, CityU is also committed to promoting applied R&D and commercializing research products. CityU is, in fact, the first university in Hong Kong to successfully incubate a technology company.
At an inauguration ceremony on 15 May to establish its Zhuhai Applied R&D Centres, CityU became the first local university to set up a research base in Guangdong's Southern Software Park.
An ambiance of culture and well-being pervaded the CityU campus throughout March and April, with the Wellness March proceeding in full gear and the Cultural Festival, with the them of "Hands Across the Water", featuring numerous performances, seminars and concerts. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a number of inter-collegiate contests, including sports, debates and recitals, held on and off campus.
