City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) welcomed a delegation from the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in May to explore opportunities for closer collaboration in areas such as talent nurturing, scientific research, resource sharing and innovative collaboration models. The visit underscores both institutions’ commitment to contributing to the strategic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while also paving the way for impactful, long-term academic collaboration.

The delegation was led by Dr Wu Guosheng, Party Secretary of CUFE, and included Professor Ge Jianxin, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office; Ms Cheng Lifang, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association and Education Foundation; Mr Chen Zhen, Director of the Student Affairs Office; and Mr Chen Huimeng, Deputy Director of the School Office.

Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, warmly welcomed the delegation. He was joined by Professor Julie Li Juan, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK and Vice-President (Academic) of CityUHK (Dongguan), to represent the University and engage in in-depth dialogue with the delegation.

President Boey highlighted CityUHK’s longstanding commitment to the internationalisation of education and research, as well as its proactive approach to expanding strategic ties with mainland universities. In recent years, CityUHK has received numerous accolades in the global university rankings, including being named the “Most International University in the World” by Times Higher Education (THE) in both 2024 and 2025.

CityUHK (Dongguan), which officially opened in September 2024, is also committed to becoming a world-class university. President Boey emphasised that CityUHK (Dongguan) maintains the same administrative structure and academic standards as CityUHK, with students enjoying access to overseas exchange opportunities. This commitment upholds the principle of “two schools, one quality”. This strategic expansion is expected to foster regional collaboration with CUFE.

As a national key university under the Ministry of Education and one of the national “Double First-Class” institutions, CUFE enjoys a strong reputation in economics, finance and management, and is widely regarded as a top-tier institution among the finance and economics universities in the Mainland.

Both institutions expressed their hope that this exchange would pave the way for future collaboration, particularly in areas such as student exchanges, joint curriculum development and research partnerships. CityUHK is committed to deepening its partnerships with mainland universities and institutions with the aim of positioning Hong Kong as a vital bridge connecting the nation with the world.
