CityUHK strengthened its academic partnerships with universities in Shandong at the "Shandong-Hong Kong Education, Culture, and Tourism Promotion and Negotiation Conference" on 21 May. During the event, the University signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the University of Jinan and Shandong Jianzhu University to enhance collaboration. Mr Michael Ngai, Council Chairman; Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor; and Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy) represented CityUHK at the conference.

 

In his speech at the conference, Mr Ngai expressed his hope that the event would foster joint educational and economic development between Hong Kong and Shandong, facilitating exchanges between universities in both regions. "In this era of globalisation, academic exchange and research collaboration are particularly vital,” he emphasised. “This partnership between Shandong and Hong Kong integrates resources and enhances research standards, while nurturing outstanding talent, injecting new vitality into the future of both regions and creating more development opportunities."

President Boey and Ms Liu Chunhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Jinan, signed an MoU of outlining cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects and knowledge sharing. This agreement marks a significant step forward in fostering academic collaboration, research partnerships and talent development between the two institutions, while laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.

Additionally, CityUHK signed an MoU with Shandong Jianzhu University, establishing a framework for collaboration in talent training, student exchange programmes, and teaching and research initiatives.

The "Shandong-Hong Kong Education, Culture, Tourism Promotion and Negotiation Conference" is one of the major events in the 2025 Hong Kong-Macao-Shandong Week. Organised by the Shandong Provincial Education Department, the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Hong Kong and Macau Work Office of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, the conference aims to strengthen ties between Hong Kong and Shandong in academic research, cultural exchange and tourism.
