City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research and encouraging collaboration among scholars across departments. A delegation from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong visited CityUHK on 11 June. During the visit, the two parties exchanged and signed several memoranda of understanding (MoUs), emphasising the strategic importance of advancing interdisciplinary research and creating platforms for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

 

The CASS delegation was led by President Gao Xiang and included leaders from various functional departments, such as the Bureau of Scientific Research Management, the Bureau of Personnel and Education, the Library, and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office. Professor Huang Ping, President of the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, also led a team to participate in the visit.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by senior management of CityUHK, including Mr Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK; Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President; and Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement).

Also attending the event were several distinguished guests, including Mr Kwan Ka-ming, Deputy Head of the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit of the HKSAR Government; Mr Hsu Hoi-shan, Director and President of the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre; and Dr Zou Chonghua, Deputy Secretary-General of Hong Kong Higher Education Convergence.

The CASS is the nation’s premier academic institution and comprehensive research centre for philosophy and social sciences, as well as a key national think tank. It comprises 31 research institutes and 45 research centres, with over 4,200 staff members, including more than 3,200 researchers. The CASS brings together a distinguished group of scholars who are highly respected in both domestic and international academic circles and have demonstrated profound scholarly achievements. Its extensive global collaborations underscore its influence in the worldwide academic community.

The Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, established by the CASS in Hong Kong, is a research institute dedicated to serving as a bridge between Hong Kong and the Mainland. It conducts a wide range of research and exchange activities in the fields of the humanities and social sciences to promote deeper communication and closer collaboration within the academic community.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward for CityUHK in serving Hong Kong and contributing to the nation. The two parties will work hand in hand to advance cutting-edge research and foster interdisciplinary innovation, offering insights and support for the long-term development of both Hong Kong and the country.
