Professor Lee Chin-chuan, Head of Department of Media and Communication, discussed the relationship between the media, politics and modern Chinese society at a recent City Cultural Salon.

Creative media graduate Rainbow Leung's award-winning picture book Wo Che Village was launched in the Hong Kong Book Fair earlier this year.

“Amalgamation, consolidation and commercialisation may prove to be overkill for the publishing industry, resulting in the decline of a cultural enterprise boasting thousands of years of history,” declared Dr Chan Man-hung, the first 2009 City Cultural Salon speaker.

Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, attended the 11th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology and presented his paper “Reliability in the 21st Century” that discussed the importance of reliability research to China’s future development.

Mr Timothy Mo, an award-winning Anglo-Chinese novelist, and Professor Zhang Longxi, Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation at CityU held a dialogue on 4 September to discuss cross-cultural understanding and interaction.

As a token of her gratitude, Jamie Zhan Bao, a Year 3 student from the Department of Biology and Chemistry, presented her Olympic Torch to CityU for its silver jubilee anniversary.
