Professor Huang Yu, Jeanie Hu Professor of Biomedical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been elected as a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea this year for his distinguished research achievements.

Professor Huang is concurrently Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Vascular Biology and Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, joining CityUHK in 2021. His research focuses on the dysfunction of vascular endothelial cells in the onset and progression of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.

“I am deeply honoured to be elected as a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea. I look forward to meeting with biomedical experts in Europe and worldwide to exchange ideas on advancing cardiovascular science, promoting health and well-being, and creating a greater global impact,” said Professor Huang.

Professor Huang has received numerous accolades for his outstanding contributions, including the Croucher Senior Research Fellow Award, the Wuxi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award, the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (first- and second-class), and the inaugural Hong Kong Research Grants Council Senior Research Fellow Award in 2021. In 2024, he became the first Chinese to receive the Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Society for Heart Research.

Professor Huang continuously demonstrates academic excellence and exerts significant global influence. He has co-authored over 524 publications in SCI-indexed journals, including Nature, Science, and Cell Metabolism, earning him more than 37,300 citations.
