Delegation from Suzhou visits CityUHK
A delegation from Suzhou visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 11 February to meet with CityUHK senior management. The two sides discussed and exchanged views on topics such as research results transfer, innovation and entrepreneurship, and talent cultivation, and explored opportunities for further cooperation.
The delegation, led by Professor Liu Bo, Deputy Mayor of the Suzhou Municipal People's Government, included Ms Zhang Tingxiu, Deputy Director of the Suzhou Science and Technology Bureau, among others. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise) of CityUHK, Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research), Professor Johnny Ho Chung-yin, Associate Vice-President (Enterprise), and Ms Sng Jing Li, Director of the Office of the President.
Professor Yang expressed his gratitude for the delegation's visit and introduced some of CityUHK's outstanding achievements in technological innovation. For example, CityUHK excelled in multiple evaluation indicators in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, with a perfect score in the “Industry” indicator and a continued top position globally.
Additionally, Professor Yang mentioned that CityUHK actively promotes transforming research outcomes and intellectual property into practical applications through various farsighted initiatives, including HK Tech 300 and the establishment of CityUHK Academy of Innovation (CAI) in 2024. These efforts are dedicated to developing a leading innovation and entrepreneur ecosystem, with the aims to nurturing young entrepreneurs, creating deep-tech start-ups, and fostering university-industry collaboration in Hong Kong and beyond.
Professor Liu highly praised CityUHK's remarkable achievements in industry-academia-research collaboration and introduced Suzhou's favourable economic conditions and business environment. He said that the first Regional University–Industry Technology Transfer Centre, focusing on advanced materials and biopharmaceutical industries, was established in Suzhou last September to promote the development of university technology transfer and industrial innovation. He hoped that Suzhou and CityUHK would jointly explore the development advantages of regional technology transfer in universities nationwide and strengthen cooperation in innovation research and talent cultivation.
The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves to learn about CityUHK's research capabilities in communications technology.
