Ms Grace Lau Mo-sheung, an alumna of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), won the Bronze medal for Hong Kong in the Karate Women’s Kata in the Tokyo Olympics today (5 Aug). CityU is arranging a celebration party to welcome her triumphant return and acknowledge her extraordinary achievement.

CityU President Way Kuo, together with the senior management, and about 100 staff, students and athletic team members, watched the live broadcast of elimination round and Final tournament on the CityU campus and cheered together for Grace, while waving pong pong sticks.

CityU was the first university in Hong Kong to introduce and practice the concept of One Health. In the sports leagues in which 13 tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong participated in the past 15 years, CityU won seven out of 11 Grand Slams. 

CityU is one of the most progressive universities in the world, and its world-class faculty members have been widely recognised across the globe. For example, CityU was ranked top in Citations per Faculty in the QS World University Ranking averaged over a 5-year period from 2017 to 2021 in Hong Kong.

Olympian Grace Lau graduated from CityU and she was named USFHK Sportswoman of the Year for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015. President Kuo said that Grace is the pride of Hong Kong and of all CityU members. “CityU advocates the ‘integration of teaching and research’ and encourages its students to strive for ‘excellence in both academics and sports’. Grace is our role model,” he said.
