The Court learned about the latest developments at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) at its 14th meeting, which was held on 23 November 2018.

Dr Chung Shui-ming, Pro-Chancellor, began with an overview of events since the Court last sat. After welcoming new members and thanking outgoing members, Dr Chung thanked all Court members for their support.

“Your involvement with CityU remains a great source of pride. I thank you for the time and effort that you invest with us here at CityU, and I hope very much that together we can continue to spread the word about CityU’s successes and its promising future,” he said.  

Mr Lester G. Huang, Council Chairman, followed up with a specific report mentioning issues related to space and congestion, the restructuring of the College of Science and Engineering, and government support for our Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme.

“This achievement of gaining government support marks a great victory in our decade-long struggle to advance research and teaching in veterinary medicine at CityU, in Hong Kong, the region and beyond,” Mr Huang said, paying tribute to Professor Way Kuo, University President, for his initial vision for advancing veterinary medicine at CityU. 

In his address, Professor Kuo highlighted the extent of the support that CityU was drawing from the community. Donations were on the rise, adding that the new Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences was already attracting substantial support.

As promising sign for the future, he told members about the recent award of grants from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to help finance major research projects for the development of agriculture and aquaculture in Hong Kong.  

The Chairman rounded off the meeting by thanking Court members once again for their interest and support. He said that members were well placed to spread the word about CityU’s successes and he encouraged them to invite their friends and family to major events such as the “ANiMAL: Art Science Nature Society” exhibition, which is currently on show at the CityU Exhibition Gallery.
