Executive Classroom 6208 in the Lau Ming Wai Academic Building at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has been named the “Allen Shi Lop Tak Executive Classroom” in appreciation of the generous support of Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak.

A naming ceremony on 16 March was officiated by Dr Shi and his family;  Mr Lester Garson Huang, CityU Council Chairman; Professor Way Kuo, CityU President; and Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations).  

The ceremony was attended by Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Provost of CityU; Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs); Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration); Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations); Miss Antonia Yeung Yu-hung, Director of Alumni Relations; and friends of Dr Shi.

Dr Shi, a successful entrepreneur, established Brilliant Printing Limited in 1985. He has transformed the company into one of the largest and most advanced manufacturer of commercial printing and paper packaging products in southern China over the past 30 years. He has donated generously to educational funds for the children of persons in custody and of correctional officers, and has sponsored students from remote areas to complete their university education.

In his welcome remarks, Mr Huang appreciated Dr Shi’s devotion to serve the community. “Dr Shi has held numerous public offices and is a role model for those who would like to serve the society. The unfailing support from Dr Shi will further encourage us to pursue excellence,” he said.

 

In his address, Dr Shi, who has an Executive MBA from CityU, said that the knowledge acquired during his two-year studies had helped him to further develop his business. “Contributing to my alma mater is the least I can do,” he said.

Professor Kuo expressed his deep gratitude for Dr Shi’s generous support in his vote of thanks. “Students are the future of our society. We will use the donation prudently to enhance the quality of our education.”

Allen Shi Lop Tak Executive Classroom can accommodate around 50 people and is equipped with advanced teaching facilities.
