Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), once again led a team of more than 1000 athletes drawn from across the CityU community, including students, staff members and alumni, at the annual Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 21 January.

This year’s marathon is especially meaningful. This is the tenth time that Professor Kuo has successfully run the 10-kilometre race. In addition, staff and students of CityU ran together with students from Mary Rose School to promote social integration.

After finishing the race, Professor Kuo likened running a marathon to running a university, in which every step and effort count. With determination and support from all team members and society, we could achieve our goals, he added.

 

 

Thanks to the support of the CityU community, CityU earned the race’s “Most Supportive Group Award” for having the 4th highest number of runners. A total of 514 runners from CityU ran the 10-kilometre event, while the rest took on the half- or full marathon.

This year the 14 members of the delegation ran the 10-kilometre event alongside with 14 students and alumni with mild intellectual disabilities from Mary Rose School. They provided support to each other.

In addition, more than 150 local and international student volunteers in the support team kept morale high throughout the race, urging on the CityU runners all the way to the finishing line.
