A Letter of Reasonable Assurance from the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council has been granted to the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) following an accreditation visit to CityU in December 2016.

 

“The letter of reasonable assurance will convert into provisional accreditation status on the date that the initial class is admitted to the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme in the fall of 2017,” explained Professor Way Kuo, University President, at the talk for The President's Lecture Series 30: Excellence in Academia on 29 March.

“The accreditation team will continue to visit to ensure standards, and full accreditation will be granted by the time that the first cohort of students graduates,” said Professor Kuo shortly before Professor Dirk Pfeiffer, Chair Professor of One Health at SVM, delivered his talk “Birds, People and Avian Influenza” as part of the lecture series.

 

Meanwhile, the selection interviews for the BVM programme have just finished. Around 1,000 candidates expressed an interest. All invited applicants attended the interviews, which were jointly conducted by CityU and Cornell faculty members.

 

“The interview panel was very impressed by the applicants’ enthusiasm for veterinary medicine and their high academic standards. We will have more information to share once the entire recruitment process has been completed,” Professor Kuo said.
