The one-day event included 75 exhibitors at 65 booths from eight countries and places, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

Highlights included the International Student Invention Exhibition, International Student Invention Competition, Start-up Exhibition, Pitch to Fly, a platform for start-ups from CityU, Cyberport and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks to pitch their innovative projects to investors, and the Tea Gathering of Innopreneurs’ Fridays.

 

Adam Lau Kong-shing, a Year 4 student in the College of Business and the co-founder of the start-up Heycoins, shared his experience along with other start-up entrepreneurs at the tea gathering.

 

 “I hope all of you will appreciate the students’ passion,” said Professor Shek Chan-hung, Director of CityU’s Office of Education Development and Gateway Education (EDGE), in his welcome remarks.

 

Professor Shek also talked about how CityU’s unique Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) gives students the opportunity to make an original discovery while studying at CityU.

 

EDGE jointly organised the event with the China Business Strategic Alliance, World Invention Intellectual Property Associations, and Creative Art and Cultural Institute. EDGE offers customised training and coaching for preparing students to pitch their ideas for start-ups to investors.

 

The Exhibition offers local and international students a platform in Hong Kong to exhibit their inventions and start-up projects and facilitates the exchange of ideas among student innovators and entrepreneurs in Asia.
