Enhancing the well-being of teachers and students through positive psychology in a school environment was the focus of a seminar at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 24 June.

The seminar, “Positive Education and Resilience Enhancement”, co-organised by the Positive Education Laboratory, Admissions Office at CityU, and the Guidance and Discipline Section of the Education Bureau attracted 200 secondary school principals and teachers.

Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and Mr Jeff Sze Chun-fai, Political Assistant to Secretary for Education, opened the seminar with their respective welcome speeches.

The speakers at the seminar were Dr Sylvia Kwok Lai Yuk-ching and Dr Anna Hui Na-na, both associate professors in the Department of Applied Social Sciences (SS) at CityU, Dr Herman Lo Hay-ming, Assistant Professor in SS, and Dr Mak Chi-keung, Principal of Lok Sin Tong Young Ko Hsiao Lin Secondary School. The moderator was Mr Chan Ka-yun, Principal of S.K.H. Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School.

Topics covered included “Implementing positive education to promote teachers’ and students’ well-being”, “Enhancing students’ resilience: Creative use of internal and external resources”, “Cultivating peace of mind: Application of mindfulness at school” and “Application of positive education in school”.
