A special seminar for ethnic minorities held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has helped familiarise participants with how the Hong Kong government operates and how it implements public policies.

The aim of “The Ninth Session of the Seminar for Representatives of Ethnic Minority Groups” held from 28 May to 8 June was to facilitate exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong.

Altogether 33 students representing 19 of the many ethnic minority groups in mainland China attended the 12-day event. They took part in training courses, visits and exchange activities.

Participants included members of the National People's Congress and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee (CPPCC).

The “team leader”, CPPCC member Ms Wang Hong, serves as Head of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Financial Work.

Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, Council Chairman of CityU, and Ms Annie Wu Suk-ching, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation, spoke at the opening ceremony of the seminar.

Other distinguished guests at the ceremony were Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, Dr David Cheng Xing, Associate Vice-President (Global Services) of CityU, Dr Louis Ma Chee-keung, Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) of CityU, and Dr James Sung Lap-kung, Academic Coordinator in SCOPE.

The seminar was organised by SCOPE, and was funded by Pei Hua Foundation.
