Four distinguished persons were conferred the title of Honorary Fellow of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, and service to, the University and the community.

 

The distinguished persons are:

?     Mr Simon Hui Hing-tak, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of E.P.S.A. Corporation Limited

?     Dr Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Chairman of Wofoo Plastics & Chemicals Group

?     Mr Armstrong Lee Hon-cheung, Director of Worldwide Consulting Group Company Limited

?     Mr Yeung Ka-sing, Past Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Society

 

Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang, Pro-Chancellor, Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, Council Chairman, and Professor Way Kuo, University President, officiated at the ceremony, which was held on 23 September.

 

In his welcoming address, Mr Herman Hu thanked the Honorary Fellows on behalf of the University for their time, wisdom and experience to CityU. “2014 is the 30th anniversary of City University of Hong Kong. We are particularly pleased to take time to give thanks to our new Honorary Fellows in what is a wonderful celebratory year,” Mr Hu said. “CityU goes from strength to strength in terms of our professional education and research output. We have also risen from 5th to 4th place in the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years of age, a reflection of our youthful dynamism, and climbed to 11th place in the QS Asian University Rankings this year.”

 

Dr Joseph Lee addressed the assembly on behalf of the Honorary Fellows. “Over the last 30 years, CityU has produced about 140,000 graduates, many of whom not only excel in their own fields of expertise but also passionately contribute their time and resources to the developments of their alma mater. We owe it to the next generation of students as well as to the people of Hong Kong to make sure that the levels of excellence that CityU has achieved in professional education and research are maintained. We have the software to do so, in the form of the University’s Discovery-enriched Curriculum, its Gateway Education courses, and its research initiatives; and the hardware, in the form of state-of-the-art facilities across this enhanced campus,” he said.
