The Steering Group on Shenzhen/Hong Kong Co-operation in Innovation and Technology visited the City University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Research Institute Building and its Information and Communication Technology Centre on 18 May.

The delegation comprised Ms Elizabeth Tse Man-yee (upper row, centre), Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Ms Janet Wong Wing-chen (upper row, 2nd from left), the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Dr Cheung Nim-kwan (upper row, 1st from right), Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, and officials from the Education Bureau, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and the University Grants Committee Secretariat.

Also in the delegation were Mr Li Zhongxiang (upper row, 1st from left), Deputy Inspector of Science and Technology Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, and Mr Wang Jianhua, Deputy Director of Shenzhen Virtual University Park.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Xue Quan (upper row, 2nd from right), Associate Vice-President (Innovation Advancement and China Office) and Director of the Information and Communication Technology Centre.

Professor Xue highlighted the mission and vision of the CityU Shenzhen Research Institute during the visit, and introduced the nine research centres and their current research projects.

He said the close relationship between Hong Kong and Shenzhen governments had encouraged the rapid development of CityU in Shenzhen and CityU’s participation in mainland basic and applied research projects.

CityU would be delighted to hear more good news from the Hong Kong government about its enhanced support for Hong Kong universities to facilitate their research activities on the mainland, he added.

The delegation then visited the Information and Communication Technology Centre, which is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, and showed great interest to the antenna measurement chamber.
