It was a night of feasting and fine food as around 130 former students from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) got together at the InterContinental Shenzhen Hotel on 28 August for the Shenzhen Alumni Reunion Dinner, organised by the Alumni Relations Office.

Alumni were joined by Professor Way Kuo, University President, Professor Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice-President (Development & External Relations) and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations). Participants also included Dr Chan Yan-chong, Associate Professor of the Department of Management Sciences, and Mr David Yip Sai-on, Senior Teaching Fellow of the Department of Accountancy.

During the dinner, Professor Kuo discussed CityU’s achievements and future development plans and thanked the alumni for their continued support. “We hope your relationship with CityU will remain unchanged even though you have already graduated,” Professor Kuo said. “CityU is your alma mater and we will always welcome you back.”

Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, a CityU Honorary Fellow and Distinguished Alumni awardee, urged the gathered alumni to reward the University by supporting the CityU Mainland Alumni Network Scholarship. This programme aims to support mainland students with excellent academic results and full-time students from the mainland on exchange programmes. Mr Richard Yen Ta-chih, a member of the Standing Committee of the Convocation, also encouraged alumni to contribute. Alumni responded warmly to the sponsorship programme and the University received around $170,000 in donations that evening.

The theme of the night was to cherish the memory of life at CityU. A video capturing the development of alumni activities was played and a group of seven alumni gave musical performances using Chinese and Western instruments. The highlight of the evening was the choral singing, joined by Professor Kuo, Professor Wong and Ms Chan, of a Cantonese popular song with the lyrics changed to include references to CityU.
