In the “CityU Alumni Forum: Investment Strategies” hosted by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 23 March, top-notch CityU alumni and experts shared their expertise in financial planning and investment insights. The forum is part of CityU’s initiatives aiming at strengthening ties between alumni and the alma mater to support University development.

Speakers invited to the forum organised by the Alumni Relations Office were all distinguished CityU alumni, including Mr Wilson Chan Fung-cheung, Assistant General Manager and Chief of Investment and Product Development, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Ms Jenny Chan Pik-ha, Chief Executive Officer of Lippo Securities, Mr Christopher Cheung Wah-fung, Chairman of Christfund Securities, and Ms Agnes Wu Mang-ching, Director of Hong Kong Financial Information Consultant. Dr Chan Yan-chong, Associate Professor at CityU’s Department of Management Sciences and renowned securities commentator, also shared his views on investment as one of the forum panelists.

Emphasising the bonding with alumni, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, hoped the event could foster communication and relationship between alumni and CityU as well as enhancing the alumni’s awareness of the University’s development. In his welcoming speech, he thanked the alumni for their strong support to the alma mater and he believed similar activities could help unite alumni with the University.

“The success of our alumni exemplifies the success of the University. The new strategic plan is going to take the institution to a new height. All faculty and staff are working hard to formulate concrete measures in order to realise the goals of the strategic plan in the hope of making you all feel proud of the University,” said Professor Kuo.

Professor Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice President (Development and External Relations), encouraged alumni to continue to support activities organised by the Alumni Relations Office and the development plan of the University. He indicated that the success of CityU’s new strategic plan very much depended on the valuable feedback and contribution of the alumni.

Speakers at the forum shared their views on the impact of the global financial market on local real estate and stock markets, foreign exchange and even our living. Their insightful analysis on the trend of US dollar and Renminbi under the current global economic climate aroused keen interest and enthusiastic discussions from the audience.

The first of a series of alumni forums, the event attracted an audience of more than 100 alumni, and CityU will organise seminars from time to time with different themes according to the interest and needs of the alumni. Distinguished leaders and professionals in different sectors will be invited as speakers to help expand alumni’s knowledge and network.
