City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will host Graduate Studies Information Day 2010 on the afternoon of 16 January to introduce its taught postgraduate, professional doctorate and research degree programmes to prospective postgraduate students.

CityU places an emphasis on research excellence and professional education. In line with the demand for professionals in different disciplines, CityU will offer professional degrees, 56 taught postgraduate programmes, and research degrees, providing a total of about 3,500 places in the academic year 2010-11.

Postgraduate education offered by the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies focuses on practicality and professionalism. A faculty team with international vision and vast teaching experience, together with well-equipped teaching facilities at CityU, enable it to provide many high-quality programmes.

“Globalisation is an indisputable fact. All industries are subject to the influence of international commerce and development,” said Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Acting Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Acting Dean of Graduate Studies at CityU. “To understand other countries’ culture is equally important for economics, trade and management. In designing our masters programmes, we start from the practical perspective so as to broaden our students’ global outlook.”

“To tie in with the rapid development of Asia in recent years and its growing influence on the world, we will introduce four new programmes this year, including some for the first time in Hong Kong,” Professor Ip added. The new programmes are Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Master of Arts in Asian and International Studies, Master of Science in Energy and Environment and Master of Science in Organisational and Change Management.

“Knowledge Hub for Professionals” remains the theme of Graduate Studies Information Day. The College of Business, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, School of Creative Media, School of Energy and Environment, and School of Law will set up booths to introduce their programmes and answer enquiries. In addition, programme leaders or professors from the colleges and schools will hold seminars that day to explain detailed programme information and the latest developments in related industries or academic disciplines.
