The Strategic Plan of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) for 2010-2015, entitled “Excellence in Research and Professional Education”, received endorsement from the Council at its meeting on 26 November 2009. “The new plan reflects CityU’s unswerving commitment to academic excellence and social advancement through outstanding research and professional education,” said Professor Way Kuo, University President.

The Strategic Plan is the outcome of numerous rounds of consultation, discussion and revision at all levels since September 2008, involving faculty, staff, students, alumni, the Council and the employers of our graduates. It is a forward-looking and action-oriented plan. It positions CityU as a leading global university in the Asia-Pacific region, distinguished by excellence in research and innovative professional education programmes to anticipate and respond to new demands and challenges in our fast-changing global environment.

The plan maps out CityU’s development direction for the next five years. It identifies major strategies and goals to empower the University to build on existing strengths and to seize upon new opportunities to realise our vision and to fulfill our mission in the highly competitive landscape of global higher education in the 21st century.

“The future of Hong Kong lies in entering new fields, establishing niche areas and fostering new industries which will complement and reflect developments in the region and the mainland. Our learning and research strategies in the plan reflect this fact,” said The Hon Leung Chun-ying, Council Chairman.

Professor Kuo expressed his thanks to colleagues involved in drafting the plan and the support of the university community for providing constructive comments and valuable input to the process. He called on colleagues to get intensively involved in developing specific operational plans and implementation details at the unit level in the next six months, on the basis of the goals and strategies set out in the Strategic Plan, to scale new heights for CityU.
