Summer of science and engineering sparks secondary student creativity

From an intelligent robotic bug to meat tenderisers, fractal art to traditional Chinese architecture, local secondary school students indulged themselves in science and engineering projects this summer. They completed Project-based Outreach Programme (POP) 2009 under the supervision of their teachers, campus students and professors from City University of Hong Kong (CityU).
This year’s POP concluded with a presentation on 19 September by 16 teams from 11 schools, showcasing their hard work over two months. They enthusiastically shared their research project results with fellow student competitors and the judging panel, and showed impressive creativity during an incomparable learning process.

As an annual event organised by the College of Science and Engineering of CityU, POP is in its fifth year. It aims to promote an interest in science and engineering amongst secondary school students, and helps them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
