“This is the first Graduate Studies Information Day held by CityU,” said Professor Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice-President (Research) and Dean of Graduate Studies.

“Under the theme ‘Knowledge Hub for Professionals’, we wish to provide degree holders and professionals with an avenue to learn more about the taught postgraduate programmes, research programmes and professional doctorate programmes offered by our faculties of business, humanities and social sciences, and science and engineering as well as our schools of creative media and law,” he added.

Professor Wong said there had been a sharp increase in the enrollment of postgraduate students at CityU. The number of students enrolling in the taught postgraduate programmes rose by almost 80% to 5,200 from 2003 to 2006. Most students had extensive work experience and first-rate academic qualifications, highlighting the strong demand among professionals for continuing education.

To cater to the diverse and growing demand for lifelong learning, CityU offers more than 60 taught postgraduate and professional doctorate programmes with over 3,000 places available to aspiring learners for the 2007-08 academic year.

These include unique programmes such as the Master of Arts in Media Cultures and the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Media; programmes in collaboration with overseas universities such as the Master of Science in Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Science jointly introduced by CityU and the University of Paris-Dauphine; and professional doctorate programmes such as the Doctor of Juridical Science, the Engineering Doctorate and the Doctor of Business Administration.

Two new taught postgraduate programmes will also be launched: the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Security in the Department of Computer Science and the Master of Arts in Chinese for Professional Purposes in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics.
