Professor Benjamin K Y T'sou, Chair Professor of Linguistics and Asian Languages and Director of the Language Information Sciences Research Centre, has been elected a member of the Royal Academy of Overseas Sciences in Belgium.

 

Professor T'sou was elected to the Academy's Moral and Political Sciences sector, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of language sciences. Professor T'sou, joined CityU in year 1984 and is currently Director of the University's Language Information Sciences Research Centre and Deputy Director of the Institute of Chinese Linguistics. A renowned language scientist, Professor T'sou was visiting Professor at University of California, Berkeley, University of British Columbia, Chulalongkorn University, and EHESS (Paris), and Tan Lark Sye Professor at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

 

Professor T'sou's research interests have covered sociolinguistics, and computational linguistics. He was a key contributor to the Language Atlas of China, which has received the highest academic award for social sciences on the mainland.
