The School of Creative Media (SCM) has once again assembled its distinguished Board of Advisors for a two-day series of meetings, discussions, and presentations on the future of the multi-media school. 

The Board of Advisors — Dr Steven J Fredericks, CEO and President of JAS Systems, Professor Tosiyasu L Kunii, Professor of Hosei University, Professor Eddie Kuo, Dean of the School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Professor Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, Editor-in-Chief of the Visual Computer Journal, and Dr Daniel S P Yang, Professor Emeritus of Theatre at the University of Colorado at Boulder — arrived at CityU on 3 June and were welcomed by President H K Chang and SCM Pro-Director, David Smith.

On the first day of their visit, the advisors were given a tour of the SCM and the Centre for Media Technology (RCMT), followed by screenings of students' work and a discussion of curriculum changes at the School. Dr Hector Rodriguez, Admission Tutor and Assistant Professor, explained that the curriculum changes, scheduled for implementation in the upcoming academic year, would be a "re-organization, not a revolution." Dr Rodriguez said these changes would focus on four specific areas: instilling a "visual sense", stressing creative writing, teaching the basic elements of sound, and training students in programming.

On the second day of their visit, the Board of Advisors was treated to an overview of faculty work and research, followed by a discussion with SCM staff. The two-day visit concluded with a meeting with the SCM Steering Committee, which comprises Professor H K Chang, Professor Edmond Ko, Vice-President of Education, Professor Matthew Chen, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of the Chinese Civilisation Centre, Professor Richard Ho, Provisional Provost of the College, Professor Kenneth Mei, Chair Professor of Applied Electromagnetics, Mr Smith, and Mrs Peggy Wong, Executive Assistant to the President.
