Identity Access Management & Single Sign-On (SSO)
Single Sign-on (SSO) is an authentication service that allows system owners to make use of the university-managed identity repository to authenticate staff and students to access various online university services with one set of credentials. Once users log in, they can access entitled university services without having to repeatedly re-enter EID and password.
Examples of services that are authenticated through SSO:
- Microsoft 365 (Email, Teams, etc.)
- Google Workspace (@gapps.cityu.edu.hk)
- Canvas
- CityUHK Announcement Portal (CAP)
- Protected Web Pages
- Service Portal
- LinkedIn Learning
- CityUHK Scholars
- Documents Management System
- Zoom
- AIMS
Starting from 17 Nov 2024, users can log in CityUHK SSO with their “iAM Smart” account. “iAM Smart” is an online log-on service provided by the HKSAR Government, which allows eligible HK citizens to use one account to log in and use the associated online services. This is an alternative to the traditional username and password login method. “iAM Smart” allows users to use the face id or fingerprint of their mobile phones to access the CityUHK SSO system.

If you have a new service and would like to set it up with SSO, please submit an online CSC Work Request to the Computing Services Centre (CSC). To implement SSO for a new service, the supplier or service must implement SAML 2.0.
