Head's Message

Greetings from the Department of Public & International Affairs at City University of Hong Kong!

We believe that with the synergy between more than 40 faculty members, about 800 undergraduate, master, and doctoral students, and numerous alumni in the Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China and different parts of the world, we can make broader, more visible, and more meaningful impacts and contribute to the betterment of our communities and the global village that we all share.

We are truly a multi-disciplinary department. Our faculty members are experts from many fields, including policy studies, public management, political science, international relations, developmental studies and sustainable development, urban policy and management, area studies (particularly China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia), and political philosophy and policy ethics.  This allows us to give our students broad coursework options.  Also, through extra-curricular activities, internships, capstone projects, and faculty mentoring, we help our students develop diverse understanding of local and global affairs and apply different skill sets to analyze and solve policy and managerial problems. 

In the coming years, our faculty members, researchers, and students will continue to pursue cutting-edge research to address important local and global policy issues and complex public governance concerns.   Our department is also committed to offering our students rigorous coursework, international experience, numerous internships, and experiential learning so that they will be ready to lead in our ever-changing world.
