| 1988 | SA was split into two departments: Department of Applied Social Studies and Department of Public and Social Administration |
| 1990 | The Department of Public and Social Administration had its first MPhil graduate |
| 1992 | Launch of Master of Arts in Public and Social Administration (MAPSA) |
| 1997 | MAPSA was retitled as Master of Arts in Public Policy and Management (MAPPM) |
