New materials are the foundation of high-tech innovations. In order to promote the integration and improvement of the research and industrialization of materials science and engineering among the universities and research institutes in the Greater Bay Area, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and City University of Hong Kong (CityU) jointly organize the first Greater Bay Materials Research Union Conference. It is hoped that, through the Conference, both Universities can incorporate the attributes and expertise of the two MSE departments to foster research collaboration, knowledge and technology exchange and joint training of talents, which will lay a solid foundation for the development of advanced materials technology in the Greater Bay Area. 

The Conference, which was organized on 11 and 18 August 2020, was a great success. Around 50 faculty members from both SUSTech and CityU shared their professional ideas of advanced materials research on energy, photoelectronics, semiconductor, metal and biology, in which the applications include high efficiency flexible battery, high-performance chips, flat panel display, wearable electronics, high-temperature alloy and other high-tech products.
