STEM Internship Scheme

The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) launched the STEM Internship Scheme (“the Scheme”) in June 2020 to encourage STEM students to gain innovation and technology (I&T) related work experience during their studies and to foster their interest in pursuing a career in the field after graduation. The Scheme has attracted over 500 companies to provide STEM internship to CityU students. In summer 2022, the number of students who participated in the Internship Scheme has been increased by 295% and 15% compared to 2020 and 2021. Here are some positive comments from the participating companies on CityU students’ work performance: Listen to the employers who have hired CityU students as interns!
From the post-internship survey result, 99% of the participating companies agreed that CityU interns mastered STEM knowledge well, and the companies would like to continue to participate in this Scheme in the future. Meanwhile, over 90% of student interns expressed that they have gained a better understanding of I&T after the internship and would consider pursuing careers in the field. In short, STEM Internship Scheme is a win-win initiative for employers and students, especially for start-up companies during the economic downturn due to the pandemic. The scheme serves to bridge the university and industry by providing incentives to attract university students to work in the I&T industry. It also offers a good platform for CityU students to gain practical work experience and better plan for their future.
