Be a Serving Leader

In the last Academic Year, the Servant Leadership Training Programme (SLTP) provided a service-learning platform for 143 servant leaders who have contributed over 9,000 service hours serving more than 1,800 service recipients. Among the service teams, the newly established team ‘Imagineer’ provided social media platform promotion services and produced microfilms for three patient self-help organisations. Online screening of the microfilms attracted more than 1,900 online views. Rainbow CHONG (Marketing, Year 4) and Sam WONG (Electrical Engineering, Year 4) joined the service team 'Imagineer' and were promoted to Senior Servant Leader this year.  Rainbow CHONG shared, “Last year, my six teammates and I were responsible for social media promotion and microfilm production for the Hong Kong Tourette Association. We were responsible for writing the script, casting, filming and post-production. We spent much time discussing with the association and seeking advice from trainers. In the end, we could present the message that the association hoped to convey in the film; all the sweat paid off. I have learnt how to use my strengths to contribute to the disadvantaged groups in the community. Meanwhile, I have gained friendships with companions striving together for a common goal”.  Sam WONG shared his feeling, “As my study major is engineering, the social media promotion and film-making tasks are new and challenging. The experience of working hard towards a goal with a group of like-minded teammates was rewarded by a satisfactory outcome. After a year, I have grown in all aspects, especially the ability to manage contingencies and communicate effectively. I cannot wait to lead a new batch of servant leaders to meet challenges this year”. In 2022/23, SLTP will expand to eight service teams with a more diversified service scope, hoping to encourage more students to join and contribute to society with what they’ve learnt.
