Fintech Olympiad, organised by City University of Hong Kong and powered by HSBC, is a programme targeting post-secondary students in the Greater Bay Area to learn about Fintech, its fundamental knowledge, and business application. The programme consists of training, competition, certification and examination. Through the programme, students can broaden their horizons in this latest technology and gain the opportunity to get a Fintech certificate for better employability.

Fintech Olympiad is powered by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), a supporter of the programme by offering industry insights and a platform for professionals to mingle with participants. The HSBC Networking Day was held on 14 January 2022 via zoom as a prelude for this great event. Students seized the opportunity to interact with HSBC financial experts and get advice from them. The final competition was held on 28 May 2022 using Gather Town, a virtual gathering space with participation of 121 students forming 32 teams from 15 universities; with 30 CityU students formed 7 teams among all.

One winning team of the competition, Bronze medalists of the competition, Lemon Team from City University of Hong Kong, designed a Fintech solution to improve trust, integrity and assurance between buyers and sellers in the used car market.

In the competition, Mr. Brian Hui, Managing Director, Head of Customer Propositions and Marketing, Wealth and Personal Banking, HSBC HK, shared the latest trend of Fintech.

In HSBC Networking Day, Mr. Ansell A and Mr. Rohit Shyla Kumar, Consultant Specialist and Development Engineer of IT Infrastructure Delivery of HSBC sharing their experience in the Technology Graduate Programme and career development at HSBC.

Sharing from Participants:

Alen is a student studying Entrepreneurial Management at Guangdong University of Finances and Economics, preparing to start his business and wishing to acquire good project experience from Fintech Olympiad.

Saurav, an Indian student residing in Hong Kong and studying Electrical Engineering, wishes to learn more about Fintech because this is a growing trend. He also aspires to use Fintech to solve real-world problems.

Matthew, a South African studying Finance, finds Fintech very “cool” as he loves finance and Technology. He would like to develop his career in the Fintech field.
