Declaring a Disability

City University is committed to providing an equal educational opportunity for all students including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You may complete the online declaration with supporting documents no later than the end of Week 2 of the first Semester/Term of your admission so that suitable arrangements can be provided to facilitate your learning at the University.

Upon receiving a student’s declaration, the SEN Officer of the Student Development Services (SDS) will review the supporting documents submitted, verify the eligibility of the student and understand his/ her educational needs; and make recommendations to academic units on academic accommodations suitable for the student.

The decisions of your home academic unit on any special assessment/examination arrangements adjusted for you will normally be available in Week 5 of your first Semester/Term. For the timeline of declaration, required documents and further information, please click here.

STEP 1

Student completes and submits the online SEN declaration with supporting documents no later than the end of Week 2 of each semester.

STEP 2

The SEN Officer will verify eligibility and meet with students concerned to work out an accommodation plan.

STEP 3

The accommodation plan will be forwarded to the academic staff of the departments of the students concerned to finalize the details of accommodations and have his/ her approval.

The purpose of this declaration is to promote a whole institution approach towards disability support at CityU; for example, it can help to ensure that a student with mobility difficulties is prioritised to have lectures in accessible locations. If you need any specific accommodations either for examinations, assessments, or in the provision of teaching and learning, we would encourage you to specify in the declaration, or you can discuss this with the SEN Officer at SDS.

If you have not had any supportive documents related to your conditions previously, please contact SDS for arrangement. If your special examination arrangements have already been approved by CityU for the full duration of your course, then there is no need to re-apply each year.
