The Computing Services Centre (CSC) is excited to announce the launch of its first classroom designed specifically for Team-Based Learning (TBL). Located at the CityU International Centre (CIC), the new classroom, CIC-G-001, aims to enhance the learning experience by promoting collaboration and group discussions.

In a joint effort to shift from teaching-centric to learning-centric approaches, the CSC has partnered with the Digital Learning and Talent and Education Development Office (TED) to create this innovative space. The classroom is equipped with numerous features that make it ideal for TBL classes.

The classroom accommodates 42 students and features triangular tables, each with three monitors and an audio-visual over-IP technology setup. This design facilitates effective communication among team members, allowing them to share screens and ideas without needing to move around. The integrated audio-visual system in the room enables students to present their ideas seamlessly, whether within their group or to the entire class. Students can activate the "Interactive Button" on their table to signal to the instructor that they are ready to present, enabling a smooth and organized presentation process.

Moreover, the classroom includes three advanced ceiling-mounted microphones, which are essential for TBL. Unlike traditional classes, TBL requires instructors to move around to provide support and feedback. The ceiling microphones enable instructors to circulate freely without carrying a microphone. This setup also supports hybrid class formats, as the microphones capture voices from anywhere in the room, ensuring that online participants can clearly hear all presenters. This technological advancement bridges the gap between in-person and online participants, allowing remote attendees to feel virtually immersed in the classroom experience.

CityUHK's new TBL classroom exemplifies the university's commitment to innovative teaching methods and enhancing the overall learning experience for its students.
