COM Graduate's Documentary Screened at 2025 Hong Kong International Film Festival

A cinematic documentary directed by Rikki Choy, a graduate from the Department of Media and Communication, was screened at the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival held between April 11 and 21, 2025.
The documentary titled “Never Too Late” tells a story of four Hong Kongers in their lives with the natural environment: A cultural worker turned farmer extols the healing power of nature, a sea-diving model tackles marine pollution, a wildlife buff practises ‘wellness photography’, and a real estate agent channels his love of birds into paintings. Choy’s subjects all highlight the city’s gorgeous yet often ignored biodiversity, and sends out the call to respect its riches in this illuminating and inspiring portrait of those who dare to live outside of the rat race and do their share.
The documentary is the first cinematic film produced by the Phoenix Satellite Television. It will be distributed and screened at cinemas in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
The Department of Media and Communication has provided assistance to the documentary as Professor Joe He served as the Technical Supervisor and several postgraduate students worked as b-roll crew members and production assistants.
Choy, a graduate from the Master in Communication and New Media program in 2016, has established herself as an accomplished documentary director and film producer. Her works primarily address humanistic, social, and historical issues. Her major documentary works include the film “Never too late,” and “Witnessing the Hong Kong's Palace Museum” broadcast by China’s Central Television.
Born in Hong Kong and raised in both Hong Kong and mainland China, she has extensive filming experience in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas, having shot in various countries across Europe, America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Her documentary works have been shortlisted at the Berlin Film Festival and the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, and have won several major documentary awards in China. As a producer, she has collaborated with renowned Italian advertising director Leonardo Dalessandri (best known for his work Watchtower of Turkey) for nearly a decade. She has also produced narrative short films, advertisements, and art films for other directors and artists both domestically and internationally.
