Around 60 children joined the event "Bring Kids to Work Day" at CityU.

Around 60 children aged from 3 to 12 joined the event “Bring Kids to Work Day” for a day of discovery and fun at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 9 August, a new initiative whose goal is to give the children an opportunity to see what their parents do at the University.

Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Provost of CityU, said in the opening session that through this event, the children would have a better understanding of the exciting work their parents do at CityU and the valuable contribution they make to the University.

“When these children participate in different activities, I hope they will not only enjoy the fun and excitement, but also get stimulated to have big dreams of what they want to be when they grow up. This is a great opportunity to develop our next generation of faculty,” Professor Jen said.

A whole-day programme was organised for the children of different age groups. They had the opportunity to stimulate their creativity with many interesting activities planned for the event, including a talk and demonstration on “Nanomaterial & Mobility” by Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering, a coding game called “Robot cars with little programming” by Dr Howard Leung Wing-ho, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and psychology games by Dr Nancy Yu Xiaonan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences. The participants could also discover the fun in various experiments.  

Children participated in various science activities.
