The Senate of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has approved unanimously plans to proceed with establishing the School of Veterinary Medicine (the School).

 

The Senate at its earlier meeting on 12 January 2010 decided to endorse the establishment of the School of Veterinary Medicine in the triennium 2012-2015. At the Senate meeting held on 14 January 2014, the 79 members attending the meeting of the Senate, which comprises 113 members including three student representatives, unanimously approved the University to proceed with plans to establish the School of Veterinary Medicine, offering initially postgraduate degree programmes in Veterinary Medicine. The University’s partner in this project, Cornell University, affirmed its support for this plan through its Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

This development would be in line with the recommendation in the Task Force Report that “In the interim, universities in Hong Kong could develop research and postgraduate programs in veterinary science to focus on research in public health and infectious diseases, and in training veterinary specialists at the postgraduate level”. 

 

CityU would, in partnership with Cornell University, start a postgraduate programme in Veterinary Medicine as well as a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences as soon as possible.
