City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has performed well in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2013.

 

The University featured in the world’s elite Top 200 institutions in 18 of the 30 subjects covered by this year’s survey, which took into account subjects taught at 2,858 universities worldwide.

 

“Once again we have demonstrated expertise across the curriculum in a broad-range of disciplines, improving our position in several areas and maintaining our rankings in the face of increased competition around the world,” said Professor Way Kuo, University President.

 

The following subject areas at CityU either enjoyed an improved ranking compared to the ranking exercise last year or appeared for the first time:

 

·       Linguistics

·       Engineering-Electrical

·       Engineering-Mechanical

·       Communication & Media Studies

·       Law

·       Politics & International Studies

·       Statistics & Operational Research

 

The QS ranking for the subject area of Linguistics rose from 40 last year to 22, making CityU the top-ranked university in Hong Kong in this subject, while Engineering-Electrical, Communication & Media Studies, Politics & International Studies, and Statistics & Operational Research were ranked in the Top 50 for the first time.

 

Engineering-Mechanical and Law made their first appearance on the survey, both going straight into the Top 100.

 

Meanwhile, English Language & Literature and Mathematics both maintained their rank in the Top 50, and Modern Languages, Computer Science and Information Systems, Engineering - Civil & Structural, Psychology, and Accounting & Finance kept their places in the Top 100.
