An Association of Accredited Advertising Agents (4As) road show recently showed off the remarkable talent of CityU graduates.

The road show, from 12 to 14 September at CityU, featured two current year marketing graduates, now working in 4As agencies, shared their experience with undergraduates interested in the advertising industry.

 

 

Mr Eric Lo is an account executive and Mr Joe Pao is a media planner. Despite being fresh graduates, both quickly adapted to the advertising agency's working environment. "The BBA programme provides ample internship opportunities for me to apply what I learned," said Mr Lo. "The four-month internship experience also familiarized me with the operation and company culture of the company. It is definitely a value-added element to my resume." Meanwhile, Mr Pao said that the internship gave him the opportunity to better understand advertising. "I learned how to work as a team player," he said.

Dr Fanny Cheung, Assistant Professor of the Department of Marketing, said: "We are committed to providing real-life internship experience to students." This marks the third year the Department has teamed up with the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents to provide internships to Bachelor of Business Administration students. In 2002, half of the students who enrolled in the internship programme secured job offers from agents such as McCann-Erickson Guangming, Universal McCann, and Lowe Limited. The remainder found marketing positions in leading commercial firms.

The road show aims to stimulate university students' interest in advertising and to recruit young talent. "We find that CityU students take every opportunity to learn how the advertising and media industries operate. The internship experience is significant for their career development in the future," said Ms Margaret Wong, Administration Director of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents.
