On a tour of CityU on 29 May, Hong Kong's top education officials said they were "very impressed" with the University's facilities, particularly the Wireless Communications Laboratory, the School of Creative Media, the Chinese Civilisation Centre and the Plasma Laboratory.

"I was very impressed by your creative media production. You've done a very good job," said Dr the Honourable Rosanna Wong, Education Commission Chairman and Executive Council Member, to a group of School of Creative Media students during her visit to the University.

Accompanied by Education and Manpower Bureau officials Mrs Cherry Tse (Deputy Secretary for Tertiary Education and Quality Education), Mr Clement Leung (Principal Assistant Secretary for Higher Education Division) and Mrs Avia Lai (Secretary of Education Commission), Dr Rosanna Wong was greeted by President H K Chang, Professor Edmond Ko (Vice-President for Education), Professor P S Chung (Vice-President for Research), Professor Y S Wong (Vice-President for Institutional Advancement).

Professor Chang introduced the guests to CityU's vision, strategic planning, academic structure, staff and student achievements, and curriculum requirements. "CityU is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research," he said. "We aim to anchor our undergraduate programmes in technological training and at the same time nourish our students in a rich cultural and humanities ambiance. On the other hand, we also endeavour to make our graduate studies and research work contribute to the region's economic development."

During the visit, education officials and University management exchanged views on issues such as the development of associate degrees and continuing education programmes.

The visitors toured the Wireless Communications Laboratory, the School of Creative Media, the Chinese Civilisation Centre and the Plasma Laboratory. They met University staff and students, and learned more about the University's latest developments and research breakthroughs, technological transfers, and teaching and learning.

The government officials said they were impressed by the creativity and hands-on abilities of CityU students. "It's very encouraging to see that CityU has been very successful in nurturing in our youth the skill of integrating cutting-edge technology with creativity," said Dr Wong.
