Frequently Asked Questions for Application

General Information

1. May I submit a hard copy rather than applying online?

   The University accepts applications submitted online only, unless otherwise specified in the advertisement. The e-Recruitment System enables CityUHK to provide better services to applicants and is environmentally friendly. If you are experiencing difficulties in applying online, please visit the FAQs first. If further assistance is required, please contact Human Resources Office.
   
   

2. May I send in my C.V. without applying for a specific job?

   The University cannot review your C.V. without your specifying interest in a particular position. Please go to the "Current Openings" under Careers site to view the list of job vacancies and click "Apply Now" for the position that you wish to apply.
   
   

3. May I apply for more than one position at a time?

   If you have interest in more than one position, please apply for each position separately.
   
   

4. What conditions of service does the University offer?

   Please visit the Useful Information page which gives an overview on the remuneration package offered by the University, including terms of appointment, medical and dental benefits, leave and allowances (where applicable).
   
   

5. May I have some information about living in Hong Kong?

   The Prospective Employees' Guide gives you an overview about living in Hong Kong and working at CityUHK. The University will try its best to assist you to settle in Hong Kong.
   
   

Applying  Job Online

6. What computer configurations and web browsers should be used for online application?

   The CityUHK e-Recruitment System may support common web browsers (including Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and above, Apple Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome) in various platforms (including Microsoft Windows, MacOS X, iOS, and Android). You are however recommended to submit online applications with desktop computers as it is much more convenience for you to upload CVs and supporting documents.
   
   

7. Is there a time-out for submitting an online application? If yes, what should I do?

   Yes. You will be timed out after 20 minutes of inactivity. You need to re-login the CityUHK e-Recruitment System. If you have previously saved the application before the time-out, your saved data will restore in your application; otherwise, you need to re-fill the application.
   
   

8. What if I start filling out the online application but cannot finish in one go?

   You may click "Save" at any time in the application process to save the parts completed. This will allow you to continue with the application before the deadline when you login the CityUHK e-Recruitment System again.
   
   

9. Can I upload additional information (e.g. covering letter, C.V., etc.) with my application?

   Yes. The total size of attachments must be smaller than 50MB (maximum 10 files). File name more than 50 characters will be truncated. File types allowed by the System are pdf, doc, xls, jpg and png.
   
   

10. What information should I include in my C.V. for a faculty or teaching position?

    Your C.V. should include the following:

    • Academic and Professional Qualifications
    • Chronological Employment History
    • Teaching Record
    • Research/Applied Work Achievements
    • Publication List [For jointly-authored scholarly works and proposals, please identify your particular contribution, which can be in the form of a percentage of the work involved.]
    • Referees [as specified in the advertisement]
    • Names and current affiliations of your doctoral and postdoctoral mentors, where appropriate
    • Community and Professional Service
    • Five copies of most recent papers or papers that contain most significant work [applicable for the position of Chair Professor or Professor]
    • Portfolio [applicable for a position in the School of Creative Media]

    
    
11. Can I change my password or email address after the creation of a user account?

    You are allowed to change the password by clicking "My Account" after login the CityUHK e-Recruitment System. However, subsequent change of email address through the System is not allowed.
    
    

12. What if I forget my password?

    You may request the CityUHK e-Recruitment System to reset your password by providing the email address used to register the account. On the Login page, click on "Forgot Password".
    
    

After Submission of Application

13. How can I confirm that my online application was received?

    You will receive a system-generated acknowledgement by email upon successful submission.
    
    

14. When will I hear about my application result?

    Applications will receive full consideration. The University will contact you if you are shortlisted for further consideration.
    
    

15. How can I update or access personal data after submission of the application?

    For online application, you may view, modify/edit your application and re-submit if the job posting is still active. Thereafter, please contact Human Resources Office, quoting the reference of the post applied for.
