CityU Community Service Awards and Scholarships

Students Share Joy of Volunteering To encourage students in developing leadership skills and nurturing their interests in community servicing, Community Service Awards and Scholarships have been established with funding support from various enthusiastic donors. Awards and Scholarships would be granted to students with outstanding commitment and achievement in community services. In the academic year 2020/21, a total of HK$366,000 was awarded to 43 recipients. Two of the recipients, Ms Annie Kwok and Ms Kellie Yuen would like to share their servicing journeys with us. My volunteering experience at CityU “2020 marked my fourth year in the Servant Leadership Training Programme (SLTP) which I have got ‘promoted’ year by year, taking up distinctive roles and greater responsibilities, and accumulated my leadership experience. Other than working for the service recipients, I have also learnt the importance of inheritance in SLTP. I am more than happy to act as a role model for my fellow schoolmates and help to shape them into future leaders.”
How did we deliver voluntary service during the pandemic? “We made use of online platforms such as Zoom. To engage service recipients, we made the sessions more interactive. By utilising various Zoom features such as video filters and virtual backgrounds, the service recipients were encouraged to interact more and express views or emotions with others. We could not succeed without your support! Let’s spread love and warmth in our society with voluntary service!”

From a participant to an organiser and advocator, volunteer service has become an indispensable part of my life.” Leading from the heart to help people in need, I wish to encourage others to engage in volunteer services by sharing my own volunteer experience. As a social work student, serving the community allowed me to broaden my horizons by interacting with different service recipients. I hope everyone would enjoy voluntary work and make it a part of their lives too. I look forward to meeting you in various volunteer services in the future!”
