Prof. Edwin Tso, together with students and alumni from SEE, took part in the North Lantau Marine Park Eco-Tour, engaging in discussions on marine conservation and sustainability while exploring Hong Kong’s coastal ecosystem.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) hosted an insightful eco-tour at North Lantau Marine Park (NLMP), inviting participants to explore the rich marine environment surrounding the Hong Kong International Airport. The event was organized as one of the key activities to tie in with the designation of NLMP and the commissioning of the Three-Runway System (3RS) in November 2024, reinforcing Hong Kong’s commitment to marine conservation.

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong was honored to receive an invitation to take part in this special boat eco-tour, joining other attendees in gaining a deeper understanding of NLMP’s ecological significance. The tour provided participants with an opportunity to appreciate the conservation measures implemented in the waters near the airport, aiming to safeguard biodiversity and sustain marine habitats.

Blessed with excellent weather and clear skies, attendees enjoyed a smooth and comfortable boat journey, immersing themselves in the beauty of Hong Kong’s western waters. Participants took part in a series of engaging Eco-talks, covering topics such as the Ecology of Cetaceans in Hong Kong, AAHK’s Marine Ecology and Fisheries Enhancement Strategy and Initiatives, and the Ecology of NLMP, deepening their understanding of the region’s environmental importance.

SEE extends its sincere appreciation to AAHK for organizing this meaningful event, which provided an invaluable opportunity to engage in marine conservation efforts and witness firsthand the work being done to protect Hong Kong’s coastal ecosystem.
