As part of the SEE Colloquium Series for Semester B, 2024/25, the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted an enlightening talk titled "Rethinking Fashion Decarbonization: From Accusations to Collaboration” on 11 Apr 2025. The event featured Mr. Kyle Chung, Assistant General Manager of Sustainability at Crystal International Group Limited, who shared his extensive expertise in the field.

Mr. Chung provided an overview of the fashion industry’s emissions landscape, revealing that it accounts for approximately 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. He highlighted the challenges faced by manufacturers, who are often at the forefront of decarbonization efforts while facing pressure from brands to meet targets without sufficient financial support.

The presentation also shed light on Crystal International’s sustainability journey, including its ambitious Net-Zero 2050 Vision validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Key strategies such as renewable energy adoption, coal phase-out initiatives, and innovative approaches like solar PV installations were discussed as part of the company’s roadmap to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2030.

Attendees were inspired by Mr. Chung’s emphasis on collaborative efforts and Crystal International’s leadership in driving change. His detailed exploration of the industry's latent challenges and solutions resonated strongly, offering actionable strategies to combat the climate crisis.
