Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, Dr. Wang Wenqi, a postdoctoral researcher from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), has been honored with the Best Research Paper Award at the 10^th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference (TEFC2025), organized by the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE).

Dr. Wang’s award-winning paper, “Enhancing Passive Daytime Radiative Cooling for Building Roofs via Infrared-Transparent PE Aerogels,” presents a groundbreaking approach to advancing electricity-free cooling technologies. The study explores the integration of infrared radiation-transparent aerogel materials with passive cooling solutions, effectively minimizing convective heat gain while maintaining high optical performance. Theoretical analyses suggest that this innovation could significantly enhance cooling efficiency, particularly in tropical regions such as Singapore, where temperature reductions could improve from 1.8 °C to 6.3 °C—a substantial advancement over existing technologies.
