The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong embraced a momentous occasion on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, as it hosted its graduation ceremony, SEE Commencement 2024.  This event served as the crowning achievement for graduates hailing from diverse programmes within SEE, signifying the culmination of their extraordinary academic odyssey.  Esteemed guests, faculty members, and families and friends of the graduates graced the ceremony with their presence, adding to the atmosphere of joy and accomplishment.

As presided by the Dean, Professor Kenneth LEUNG, SEE Commencement 2024 became an unforgettable milestone as deserving graduates were bestowed with well-deserved academic accolades.  Students who had successfully traversed the realms of programmes, i.e., Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science in Energy and Environment, Bachelor of Engineering in Energy Science and Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Science and Engineering, were recognized for their exceptional accomplishments and unwavering dedication.

The ceremony was further elevated by the distinguished presence of Ir Professor Alfred SIT, the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), who graced the occasion as the esteemed Guest of Honour.  In his inspiring speech, Ir Professor SIT paid tribute to the graduates’ exceptional expertise in energy management and environmental impact assessment.  He emphasized their pivotal role in realizing sustainable objectives and ensuring a greener, more resilient Hong Kong.

The event also served as a platform to honor the unwavering commitment and excellence demonstrated by SEE’s esteemed faculty members.  Several prestigious awards were presented to recognize their outstanding contributions.  Professor Alicia Kyoung Jin AN received the “Outstanding Research Award” for her exceptional research achievements, while Professor Jason Chun-Ho LAM was bestowed with the “Teaching Excellence Award”.  Moreover, both Professor Patrick Kwan-Hon LEE and Professor Jason Chun-Ho LAM were honored with the “SEE Teaching Excellence Award” in recognition of their exceptional teaching performance and dedication to student growth.

In addition to faculty recognition, the ceremony showcased the exceptional performance of final-year project students.  The “Outstanding Final Year Project Award” was proudly claimed by Miss FU Chengxi as the winner.  Following closely behind, Mr. CHAN Kam Fai and Miss TO Wing Ki were acknowledged as the 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.  Their outstanding work served as a testament to their unwavering dedication and innovative prowess in their projects.

As the ceremony drew to a close, Mr. Felix KIOE, the representative of the graduating class, took center stage, delivering a speech on behalf of his fellow graduates.  His words expressed heartfelt gratitude and reflected upon the collective triumphs and achievements of their academic journey.

SEE Commencement 2024 served as an extraordinary moment of pride and celebration, paying homage to the graduates’ unwavering efforts and dedication.  As these gifted individuals embark on their professional paths, they are poised to make significant contributions to a greener and more sustainable future.
