Abstract: This seminar involves a review of recent research & development of coreless planar transformer technology and its extension to universal wireless battery charging platform. Wireless planar charging platform technology has the potential of unifying the battery charging protocol for portable consumer electronic products. The basic concepts of energy and signal transfer through coreless planar surfaces will be explained. Then the practical constraints on the applications of planar transformer technology will be discussed. Current and future research issues will be addressed.
