Hong Kong major newspapers published State Key Laboratory’s important research findings on microplastics and plasticizers in stormwater drains in Hong Kong.

城市大學海洋污染國家重點實驗室與渠務署合作，監察大型污水處理廠及雨水渠排水中的微塑膠含量，發現污水廠依然是主要排放微塑膠源頭，估算顯示全港污水廠每日排放四十四億八千萬至二百六十八億粒微塑膠到海洋，但雨水渠每日也會排放至少二億二千四百萬至三十二億一千萬粒微塑膠。研究團隊又首次證實，本港雨水渠含有大量塑化劑，建議政府考慮對城市雨水進行適當處理後，才排放到海中 。
