GE Credit Transfer

Students may apply for credit transfer to fulfill GE Requirements in accordance with the University’s Academic Regulations.

Scenario 1

Want to apply for a credit transfer approval based on previous qualifications.

Scenario 2

Want to apply for a credit transfer approval before departing for an exchange programme (GE Credit Transfer Pre-Approval for Outbound Exchange Students).
Note: Students are advised to submit their application one month before the start of their exchange period.

Credit Transfer Pre-Approval Application and Supporting Documents ✽

To apply for credit transfer for any GE course(s) to GEPC, please complete the GE Course Credit Transfer Pre-Approval Application form, and submit it to the Secretary of GEPC (B5-119, YEUNG) along with the following supporting documents:

Approval Criteria

Applications for credit transfer will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

The course to be transferred is considered a GE course in the hosting institution, or it aligns with CityUHK GE Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs), following the curricular mapping .
The post-secondary institution or professional association at which the course was taken should be adequately accredited and widely recognised for its awards and qualifications among higher education institutions.
The level of work for the course taken should be comparable to either the equivalent work level of a CityUHK course, or the level of work required to meet a programme requirement.
The assessment of the course eligible for credit transfer should be rigorous enough to ensure that the student has achieved the relevant academic standard.
The number of credit units transferred to CityUHK should be based on the practice of granting one credit unit for every forty to fifty hours of student work.

Note: The Gateway Education Programme Committee (GEPC) has final authority to arbitrate cases of disagreement regarding credit transfer to GE courses/requirements.

Course designers should ensure that the proposed GE course(s) are designed to achieve the Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs) with varying levels of depth and breadth. It is mandatory for every GE course to address both PILO 1 and PILO 10 significantly. Each course must also fulfil its specific PILO requirements outlined in the curricular mapping of the GE programme approved by CityUHK’s Senate (see the Table below).
