CityUHK CLASS partners with Cambridge Digital Humanities to Enhance Academic Collaboration

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) at CityUHK, together with its Department of Media and Communication (COM), has launched a new academic partnership with Cambridge Digital Humanities at the University of Cambridge through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 1. This MoU paves the way for academic exchange and collaborative research in the field of digital communication.
The MoU signing ceremony, held on November 1 (Friday), featured distinguished representatives from both institutions: Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong; Dame Madeleine Atkins, President of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge; Prof. HO Tat Kei Alfred, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Professor Henriëtte Hendriks, Vice-President of Lucy Cavendish College; Professor Wang Xiaohu, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Prof. SHEN Fei, Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Media and Communication; and Prof. WANG Xiaohui Vincent, Assistant Professor of the Department of Media and Communication.
As part of the partnership, COM students will have enhanced access to the unique teaching environment at the University of Cambridge, which will enrich their academic experience and prepare them for successful careers in the media industry or as scholars. Research students and faculty members will also have opportunities to visit the University of Cambridge, engage with renowned scholars, and participate in collaborative research projects.
Professor Yi-Hui Christine Huang, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Media and Communication at CityUHK, expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration: "The partnership brings together our strengths in areas such as media analytics, cultural studies, and digital innovation, allowing COM to join a global network of leading research institutions. Both faculty and students will have the opportunity to engage with Cambridge’s world-class resources."
Professor Huang added that COM plans to work closely with Cambridge experts in digital humanities, providing an inspiring pathway for undergraduates pursuing future studies, such as Cambridge’s MPhil programs in digital humanities. And Professor Huang believed the collaboration will enhance their academic development and equip them with critical skills and global perspectives, including digital literacy and AI-mediated communication, positioning COM as a leader in media and communication studies in Asia.
